Courses
THEORY LESSONS. To be successful in passing the test you need to score 43 out of 50 on the multiple choice questions and 44 out of a possible 75 points on hazard perception. Both parts must be passed to pass the theory test. Books, DVD's and theory test papers can be borrowed for extra help at home if needed. Help and guidance is also given while on lessons in the car using apps on an ipad to help you pass both tests.
LEARNER LESSONS. Available once a pupil is 17 and holds a provisional licence, however off road training is available for 15 years plus. All lessons are tailored to the pupils needs and ability to very high standards for safe driving for live. The driving test last for about 40 minutes and within that time the examiner will be looking for a confident drive in lots of different situations. You will be expected to complete one manoeuvre and one in three candidates are asked to perform an emergency stop. For twenty minutes you are asked to drive independently, this involves following a satnav which is set by the examiner for twenty minutes, or one in five canditades won't use a satnav but will follow road signs. After twenty minutes the driving examiner will give you directions. You will be asked two questions during the test. A tell me question before you start the car and a show me question during the driving test. You will pass if you have fifteen driver faults but sixteen will result in a fail. You must not have a serious or dangerous fault, just one of these will be a fail!
PASS PLUS. Once passing your driving test to gain more experience and knowledge of driving. It is recommended by the DVSA, insurance companies and driving organisations that you take extra training. There is no test but must last for 6 hours and consists of 6 modules:
Town driving
Rural roads
Night driving
All weather driving
Dual carriageways
Motorways
Once training has been completed and to the required standard of each module, HD driving school complete necessary paper work and the DVSA will forward a certificate which may be accepted by your insurance company to gain discount off you premium.
ADVANCED/REFRESHER. Lessons are tailored for someone who wants to gain a higher qualification or the not so confident driver who wants to brush up on their driving skills, this could include motorways, town, parking or even Eco driving, helping reduce fuel costs and emissions and do your bit for the environment.
INTENSIVE COURSES. For those who require a licence fast this is ideal. First HD Driving school give you a 2hr driving assessment to gain a understanding of your skill and experience, Huw will then advise you on the necessary hours of instruction needed to complete the course and then book your driving test. It is advised that you pass your theory test before booking a course but is not essential but will hold things up as you need a theory certificate to book a practical test.
POWYS MATURE DRIVER SCHEME. This scheme is aimed at the over 65's. This is run though powys and is a driving assessment which lasts for 1 hour with a driving instructor to brush up on your driving skills.
